Your Money

  • A simple budget helps you see what’s coming in, what’s going out, and what’s left — even if it is only a rough estimate.

  • Focus first on priority bills: rent, council tax, gas, electricity and water.

  • If money is tight, tell us early. We can help you check support, reduce avoidable costs, and plan next steps.

  • If needed, we can help you gather documents and signpost or refer you to specialist advice.

Action Plan

  • Make a budget and agree your top priorities (see below)

  • Gather documents and complete checks/forms

  • Explore money-saving tips and support options (see below)

Money Saving Tips

  • Review your budget every 3 months — small changes in bills, benefits or spending can quickly add up.

  • Plan meals before shopping — check what you already have, write a list, and avoid buying extras you do not need.

  • Buy second hand — clothes, furniture, toys and household items are often much cheaper pre-loved.

  • Check subscriptions and renewals — cancel anything unused and compare prices before your insurance, phone or broadband renews.

  • Use free or low-cost local activities — libraries, parks, community groups and churches can reduce costs of days out.

  • Holiday closer to home — UK day trips, visiting family, or short breaks can avoid the biggest travel costs.

There are several helpful budgeting tools to manage your money. There’s a paper form in your Warm & Well booklet, and a spreadsheet is available to download here.

Fuel Debt

  • If you are in arrears or cannot top up, you are not alone — do not ignore letters.

  • If you use prepay and are running out, this can lead to self-disconnection, which is urgent if someone in the home is vulnerable.

  • Contact your supplier as early as possible. You can ask for an affordable repayment plan and explain any health, disability, age, language or family needs.

  • If there is no heat or power and someone is vulnerable, tell us the same day so we can help you plan safe next steps.

Action Plan

Book an appointment with our team to:

  • Make a plan for arrears and next steps

  • Arrange extra support, including a home visit if needed

Bills & Tariffs

  • Your bill is mainly: unit price × energy used + standing charge.

  • Bills can be wrong if they use estimated readings, the wrong meter, the wrong tariff, or incorrect account details.

  • If you’re struggling to pay or something looks wrong, tell us early — we can help you work out the next step.

  • Keep all letters and reference numbers. If you can, take a clear photo of your meter and any recent bill.

Action Plan

  • Get support to understand your bill and next steps

  • Take meter photos/reads and prepare what to say to the supplier

  • Keep track of your suppliers and references (see below)

Energy problems are much easier to tackle when you’ve got the key dates and reference numbers in one place. Use this section of your Warm & Well booklet to keep track, and if you need support, book in with a team member to go through it together.

Stay Warm

  • Staying warm means using safe heat, keeping heat in, and using heating controls well.

Damp and condensation often improve with steady heating and ventilation, especially in kitchens and bathrooms.

Small changes — draught-proofing, curtains, LEDs, and better heating controls — can help reduce bills without reducing safety.

If heating or hot water is not working, the home is persistently cold or damp, or the risk is high, we can consider a home visit.

Action Plan

Book an appointment with our team to:

  • Make a warmth plan and follow up

  • Book a home visit to look at heating and heat loss safely

  • Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas you cannot see, smell or taste. Symptoms can include headache, dizziness, nausea, tiredness, confusion, chest pain or shortness of breath.

If you suspect CO, open doors and windows, get everyone into fresh air immediately, and seek urgent help if symptoms are severe.

Never use BBQs, camping stoves or outdoor heaters indoors. Keep vents and flues clear.

If you smell gas or suspect a gas or CO emergency, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Action Plan

  • Install a CO alarm

  • Complete a quick 5-minute survey. Scan the code below to get started

  • The Priority Services Register (PSR) is free extra support from energy and water companies for people who are vulnerable or need extra help.

Support can include priority help in outages, communication help, meter-reading support, and notice of interruptions (varies by supplier).

You may qualify if you’re older, disabled, have a long-term condition or mental health needs, are pregnant, have young children, or need info in another format/language.

We can help you check eligibility and register.

Action Plan

  • Register for the PSR - scan the code below, and please enter our partner code 040 when prompted
