Faith, Fellowship and Hope: Reflections from a Mission Trip to Nepal

Earlier this year in March, Anne, Christine, Andy and Anita from our church family had the privilege of travelling to Nepal, joining long-standing friends and ministry partners to encourage local churches, support community projects, and witness firsthand what God is doing in this beautiful nation.

It was Anne’s 26th visit to Nepal but for some members of the team, it was a first visit. For others, it was a return to a place that has become a second home through years of friendship, prayer, and partnership. Yet for everyone who went, the trip left a lasting impact.

A Church Alive with Faith

One of the most inspiring aspects of the visit was seeing the passion and commitment of Nepalese Christians.

Church services in Nepal are often held on Saturdays, as Sunday is a normal working day. During Easter weekend, however, believers gathered not only for their regular Saturday service but also for a special Easter Sunday celebration that began before sunrise.

Despite the early hour, churches were full of worshippers eager to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. The joy, devotion, and hunger for God were evident everywhere we went.

As one team member reflected:

"Seeing people gather at five o'clock in the morning to worship Jesus was incredibly inspiring. Their love for Christ and commitment to their faith challenged and encouraged us."

Over the course of the trip, the team visited several churches, each with its own story, ministry, and vision for reaching its community.

Encouraging Local Leaders

A significant part of the visit involved spending time with pastors and church leaders who faithfully serve in often challenging circumstances.

At Abundant Life Church, the team visited a village where ministry leaders hope to establish a Christian presence and share the Gospel with local families. Their vision is to provide a home for a ministry worker and create opportunities for people in the village to hear about Jesus.

The team also spent time with Glory Church and other congregations where worship, prayer, and discipleship are central to church life. Everywhere they went, they encountered leaders who were deeply committed to serving their communities and sharing the hope of Christ.

Supporting Practical Needs

Alongside church ministry, the trip included visits to several charitable projects that are making a tangible difference in people's lives.

One such ministry works with women recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. The team had opportunities to share their testimonies, encourage residents, and spend time listening to their stories. Several women who had once lived in the programme are now serving as staff members, demonstrating the life-changing impact of restoration and support.

They also visited schools supported through local partnerships. Donations from supporters help provide school uniforms, bags, stationery, and educational opportunities for children who might otherwise struggle to attend school.

The joy on the children's faces as they received school supplies and welcomed visitors was unforgettable.

Standing with Those Who Suffer

The team met individuals facing significant health challenges, including a young man who has been undergoing dialysis treatment several times a week for several years.

Despite his circumstances, his faith and perseverance were inspiring. Support from local churches and ministry partners helps provide practical assistance while reminding him that he is valued, loved, and not alone.

Visits were also made to hospitals and care homes, including facilities serving people affected by leprosy and those receiving palliative care. Through prayer, conversation, worship, and simple acts of kindness, the team witnessed how God's love is being shared in both word and deed.

More Than a Mission Trip

While the trip involved ministry opportunities, it was also deeply relational.

The Nepalese culture is one of extraordinary hospitality. Whether sharing meals in family homes, receiving handmade gifts, joining in worship, or simply drinking tea together, the team experienced genuine friendship and generosity.

Again and again, people opened their homes and hearts, reminding us that mission is not simply about what we give, but also about what we receive.

One team member reflected:

"They made us feel like family. We went to encourage them, but we came home encouraged ourselves."

The Beauty of God's Creation

Alongside the ministry activities, the team had opportunities to experience Nepal's breathtaking scenery.

From the snow-capped Annapurna mountain range to remote villages and bustling city streets, the beauty of the country provided countless reminders of God's creativity and majesty.

Many described standing among the mountains as a deeply spiritual experience, a place where God's presence felt especially close.

Looking Ahead

As the team returned home, they carried with them countless memories, new friendships, and a renewed appreciation for the global Church.

The trip served as a powerful reminder that although Christians around the world may live in very different circumstances, we are united through our faith in Jesus Christ.

We are grateful for everyone who prayed, gave, and supported this mission journey. Your partnership helped make these visits possible and continues to strengthen ministries that are sharing hope, compassion, and the Gospel throughout Nepal.

Please continue to pray for the churches, pastors, charities, and communities we visited, and pray that the seeds planted through these ministries will continue to bear fruit for God's Kingdom.

Thank You for bringing the team home safely and for all they have experienced, learned, and shared with us. Thank You for the friendships strengthened, the lives touched, and the encouragement exchanged between believers from different nations and cultures.

As a church family, we lift up the people and ministries of Nepal to You. Bless the pastors, church leaders, volunteers, and congregations who faithfully serve You. Strengthen them in their daily walk, provide for their needs, and continue to use them to share the hope and love of Jesus with those around them.

We pray for the schools, hospitals, recovery programmes, community projects, and all those who are working to bring practical help and compassion to people in need. May Your hand be upon them and may their work bear lasting fruit.

Lord, we especially remember those who are facing illness, hardship, poverty, or uncertainty. Surround them with Your peace, comfort, and provision. Let them know that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved by You.

Help us as a church not only to be inspired by what we have heard today, but also to continue supporting Your work through our prayers, generosity, and willingness to serve wherever You call us.

May the stories we have heard remind us that Your Church is one family, united across nations and cultures through Jesus Christ.

We thank You for all that You have done, all that You are doing, and all that You will continue to do.
